Western diet

The Western diet or Western pattern diet or American diet is featured with high amounts of red meat, processed meat, soft drinks, ready to eat foods, dairy and eggs, refined grain products, and low amounts of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, nuts and seeds.

From the viewpoint of food components, Western diet has high sugar, high salt, high animal derived protein, high fat, and high dairy.

The Western diet has been associated with all sorts of health issues including type 2 diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, obesity, autoimmune disease, and osteoporosis.
