The Pescetarian Diet

What is the Pescetarian diet? Pescetarian diet, which is also known as pescatarian diet or pesco-vegetarian diet, consists of all plant-derived foods plus eggs dairy and fish and shellfish.  Foods can include whole gains and grain products; legumes like beans, lentils, tofu, and humus; nuts and seeds including hemp, chia and flaxseeds; dairy products including yogurt, milk and cheese, fruit/vegetables; and fish and shellfish.  Simply put, people who follow this diet do not eat MEAT.

Why do some people follow the Pescetarian diet?  Some people use this diet because they may consider meat unhealthy.  So simply because they like the taste of fish/shellfish and the potential health benefits from fish/shellfish. Some people practicing Pescetarianism adhere to this Pescetarian diet because of their religious beliefs.

How good is this Pescetarian diet?   Vegetarian diet is always superior to the Western diet or American diet which is full of meat and processed foods.  Fish is often considered a healthy dietary component even though the chemical  pollution and radioactive particle pollution in the sea may contaminate all sorts of seafood.  Fresh water fish may be relatively safer, but still they can be heavily contaminated with heavy metals and persistent toxic chemicals.   So watch out what fish you are eating if you happen to be a Pescetarian.  Not all fish are created equal.

What you need to know regarding Pescetarian diet?  Like all other vegetarian diets, Pescetarian diet may not bring you all the benefits it is supposed to.  Make sure you cook your foods safely and eat them properly.  A good food can be destroyed if you cook it improperly.   Make sure that you use a variety of foods to ensure that your diet provides a balanced nutrition profile.  Limit your intake of fish if you do use this diet.  All states and local governments may pose warnings as to what fish you can eat and how much of them you can eat.
